Noida: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday inaugurated the 550-bed Medanta Super Specialty Hospital in Noida’s Sector 50, calling it a major step forward in strengthening quality healthcare in the state.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Minister said the new Medanta facility would not only enhance medical services but also create significant employment opportunities and attract large-scale investment in Uttar Pradesh.

‘Medanta Has Become a National Brand’

Yogi Adityanath said that Medanta had established itself as a trusted national brand due to its commitment to high-quality health services. Recalling earlier skepticism when Medanta expanded to Lucknow after Gurgaon, he said the facility proved its worth—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic—by playing a crucial role in patient care.

“There had been a long-standing demand for a better hospital in Western UP, and Medanta has fulfilled that need,” the CM said, as reported by PTI.

Healthcare Was Once Unaffordable for the Poor

The Chief Minister said that a decade ago, treatments for kidney ailments, cancer, liver cirrhosis, or bypass surgeries were out of reach for the poor, forcing families to sell land or jewellery.

He said the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Bharat Yojana have transformed this situation, providing free treatment worth ₹5 lakh per year to 50 crore beneficiaries across India. Uttar Pradesh, he added, has further expanded the scheme to include those who were left out.

Under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, ₹1,300 crore was sanctioned within a year to support treatment for the underprivileged in empanelled hospitals.

‘One District, One Medical College’ Model

Highlighting the state’s transformation, he said Uttar Pradesh was once known for “One District, One Mafia,” but the BJP government has changed this perception by achieving “One District, One Medical College.”

The state has relaxed housing and building policies to promote hospital construction. Earlier, an 18-meter road was required for setting up a hospital; the norm has been reduced to 7 meters to encourage private investment in healthcare infrastructure.

“People are now coming to Uttar Pradesh in large numbers,” the CM added.

10 Crore UP Residents Linked to Ayushman Bharat

Yogi Adityanath said 10 crore residents of Uttar Pradesh are now connected to health services through Ayushman Bharat and the CM Jan Arogya Yojana.

He also highlighted ongoing efforts with IIT Kanpur to set up a Centre of Excellence (MedTech) to integrate artificial intelligence and advanced technology into healthcare delivery.

Virtual ICU and Remote Healthcare

The CM emphasised technology-based healthcare, recalling that during COVID-19, the state launched a virtual ICU using the hub-and-spoke model. SGPGI Lucknow and Medanta Lucknow have now adopted this system for better outreach in remote districts.

Encephalitis Deaths Brought Down to Zero

Highlighting a major achievement, Adityanath spoke about the decades-long encephalitis crisis in eastern Uttar Pradesh, where 1,200 to 1,500 children died each year during the monsoon season from 1977 to 2017.

He said that after becoming chief minister in 2017, his government launched a comprehensive campaign that brought the disease under control within two years.

“Today, there are no deaths from encephalitis in eastern UP. Improved healthcare facilities and preventive measures have saved thousands of lives,” he said.
