Yuva Vikas Morcha stages protest outside hospital, inquiry committee formed by health authorities
A major protest broke out outside the Civil Hospital in Phagwara after the death of an unborn child during delivery allegedly due to medical negligence. Members of the Yuva Vikas Morcha, led by its President Anu Sahota, accused hospital doctors of negligence and delay in conducting the delivery procedure.
The protesters gathered outside the hospital premises and raised slogans against the hospital administration, alleging that the Senior Medical Officer (SMO) and another doctor failed to provide timely medical care to the pregnant woman.
According to the family, the delay in medical intervention resulted in the death of the unborn child inside the womb. The protesters demanded strict action against the doctors involved and called for accountability in government healthcare services.
Family alleges delay in delivery procedure
The pregnant woman has been identified as Kiran, wife of Sagar Kaler and a resident of Khera Nangal in Phagwara, Kapurthala district of Punjab.
As per reports, Kiran was pregnant with her third child and was undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, Phagwara. The family stated that her delivery date was scheduled for May 4, 2026, following which they reached the hospital early in the morning.
However, Sagar Kaler alleged that despite repeatedly informing doctors about his wife’s worsening condition, the medical staff delayed the delivery procedure until afternoon. He claimed that the unborn child died because doctors failed to act on time.
Calling the incident a case of gross medical negligence, Sagar appealed to the Phagwara Superintendent of Police and health department officials to initiate strict action against the doctors responsible and deliver justice to the family.
Protesters warn of intensified agitation
During the demonstration, members of the Yuva Vikas Morcha warned the administration that if no concrete action is taken, the organisation will intensify its agitation in the coming days.
The protesters also expressed solidarity with the grieving family and stressed the importance of responsible healthcare services in government hospitals.
The protest later ended peacefully after the demonstrators submitted their demands to the concerned officials.
Three-member inquiry committee constituted
Meanwhile, the Senior Medical Officer informed that the Civil Surgeon of Kapurthala has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter.
The committee includes Dr Parminder Kaur, Gynaecologist, Dr Anil Sheemar, Anaesthetist, and Dr Harpreet Momi, Paediatrician. The panel will examine the allegations of negligence and submit its findings to the authorities.
