Hyderabad: K. T. Rama Rao on Friday said that the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospitals were envisioned to provide world-class healthcare facilities to the people of Hyderabad on par with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Addressing the media after inspecting the TIMS facility at Sanathnagar, KTR stated that government hospitals such as Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital had traditionally served as the backbone of public healthcare in Telangana. He said the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government launched modern TIMS hospitals to ensure advanced medical treatment facilities comparable to those available in corporate hospitals.
Sanathnagar TIMS Built at Rs 1,200 Crore Cost
According to KTR, the Sanathnagar TIMS hospital was constructed over 22 acres using advanced technology and international standards at an estimated cost of Rs 1,200 crore.
He said TIMS hospitals were established in Sanathnagar, LB Nagar and Alwal to provide quality healthcare services to poor and middle-class families across Hyderabad.
KTR highlighted that the Sanathnagar complex consists of three major blocks and includes:
- 300 ICU beds
- 16 modern operation theatres
- MRI and CT scan facilities
- Dedicated emergency services
- VIP suites
- Research and academic infrastructure
- A large auditorium
He also said that a modern parking system with a capacity for around 1,000 vehicles had been developed at the facility.
Special Facilities for Patients and Research
The BRS working president said a dedicated guest house for attendants of patients and a separate emergency ramp had also been constructed as part of the project.
He added that facilities were being developed to support specialised kidney-related research and claimed that TIMS was being expanded into one of the country’s largest public healthcare systems in terms of medical manpower.
KTR Claims Project Delayed After Change in Government
Referring to the progress of the hospital project, KTR alleged that the Sanathnagar TIMS facility would have been completed nearly two years ago if the previous government led by K. Chandrashekar Rao had remained in power.
He also recalled that the earlier BRS government had established 350 Basti Dawakhanas across Telangana to bring healthcare services closer to residential localities.
Expansion of Healthcare Infrastructure in Telangana
KTR further said that a 2,000-bed government hospital was currently under construction in Warangal and that the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) was also undergoing major expansion.
During his inspection, KTR instructed officials to improve the functioning of elevators at the Sanathnagar TIMS hospital and urged the present government to complete the remaining construction work and make the facility fully operational for the public at the earliest.
