Project Cost Pegged at Rs 23.75 Crore
Agartala: In a major boost to healthcare access in Tripura’s tribal belt, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday announced the establishment of a 50-bed Critical Care Block (CCB) at Dhalai District Hospital under the PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) scheme.
Officials said the project, estimated at Rs 23.75 crore, aims to reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for advanced treatment and ensure timely access to critical healthcare services at the district level.
Focus on Trauma and Cardiac Care
Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, said the new block would significantly strengthen district-level medical services, including trauma care, cardiac treatment and management of other serious illnesses.
“This is not just an infrastructural upgrade but a transformative step in healthcare delivery at the district level,” Saha said.
Referrals to Agartala to Reduce
The Chief Minister said the availability of advanced medical support at Dhalai District Hospital would minimise the need to refer critical patients to Agartala, easing both financial and logistical burdens on families in remote areas.
He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting the expansion of healthcare facilities in Tripura’s tribal regions.
Addressing Healthcare Gaps
Officials said the new facility marks a significant step towards reducing healthcare disparities in the state and reflects coordinated efforts to strengthen medical infrastructure in underserved districts.
Proposal for Medical College in Dhalai
Earlier, Chief Minister Manik Saha had met Union Health Minister JP Nadda in New Delhi to discuss multiple healthcare infrastructure projects, including a proposal for a new medical college at Kulai in Dhalai district.
The proposed college is planned under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and is intended to serve Dhalai, which has been identified as an aspirational district.
