CM Highlights Reduced Patient Outflow
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday said the number of patients going outside the state for treatment has reduced significantly. To further improve patient convenience, the government has launched the Inter-Departmental Referral System (IDRS).

Remarks at National Dentist Day
The Chief Minister made these remarks while inaugurating National Dentist Day-2025 and the 24th Annual Conference of the Indian Dental Association (IDA), Tripura State Branch, at Pragya Bhavan, Agartala. He noted that December 24 marks the birthday of eminent dentist Padma Bhushan Rafiuddin Ahmed.

Importance of Dental Health
Saha said that the main objective of National Dentist Day is to highlight the importance of dental health in overall well-being and to create awareness about the need for regular dental check-ups. “The role of dental surgeons is very significant in this regard,” he added.

Dentistry and Well-Being
The Chief Minister encouraged initiatives to educate the public about dental health beyond this day. “One of the ways to stay free from stress is to smile. Teeth are very important for all of us and also useful for self-defence,” he said, adding a light-hearted remark about being a dentist and a Chief Minister.

Forensic Odontology in Focus
Saha highlighted the role of forensic odontology in identifying victims of disasters, plane crashes, or other incidents using dental records. “This field is critical in helping law enforcement and disaster management,” he said.

Healthcare Improvements in Tripura
He pointed out improvements in state health services, including doubling the number of beds at GB Hospital, with 100 more beds planned. The Inter-Departmental Referral System (IDRS) aims to streamline patient transfers and care within the state.

Successful Kidney Transplants
The Chief Minister also noted collaboration with SHIJA Hospital in Manipur, through which five kidney transplants have been successfully carried out in Tripura, reflecting the government’s focus on advanced medical care.

Government’s Humane Approach
Saha emphasized that the government is working with a humane approach for the people. The event was attended by Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, NHM Director Saju Wahid, Health Department Director Debashree Debbarma, and other eminent doctors.
