Thane: In a targeted crackdown on unlicensed medical practitioners, the Vithalwadi police have registered an FIR against two individuals accused of practising medicine illegally in Manere village, Kalyan. The action is part of a special drive by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) aimed at curbing illegal medical practice in the region.

Following a tip-off, KDMC’s health department conducted an inspection at Shri Sai Clinic in Manere village. It was found that one accused had no medical license, while the other possessed a degree in electro-homoeopathy—an alternative medicine not recognized by the Medical Council of India (now National Medical Commission).

Both individuals were found practising without valid licenses and have been booked under Sections 33 and 36 of the Maharashtra Medical Professional Act and Sections 318 and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Deepa Shukla, health officer at KDMC, stated, “We acted swiftly after receiving information on February 7, 2024. Our verification confirmed their lack of valid licenses, leading to the FIR filed on May 19.”

Vithalwadi Police sources confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the accused have been summoned for statements, though no arrests have been made yet.
