Government sanctions expansion of hospital from 50 to 100 beds as patient care, surgeries and diagnostic services witness major growth
Telangana’s Peddapalli District Government Hospital has delivered healthcare services worth more than ₹131 crore over the past two years and is set for a major infrastructure expansion after the state government approved a ₹51 crore project to increase its capacity from 50 beds to 100 beds.
The details were shared by Government Whip and Peddapalli MLA Chinthakunta Vijayaramana Rao during his visit to the hospital, where he inspected various wards and interacted with patients to review the quality of healthcare services.
Addressing a press conference, the MLA highlighted the hospital’s progress in strengthening patient care, expanding infrastructure and upgrading medical facilities.
According to Rao, the hospital has procured medical equipment worth ₹40 lakh for several speciality departments, including ophthalmology, orthopaedics, pulmonology, ENT, dermatology and dentistry, enhancing the quality of specialised healthcare services.
The hospital has also established a Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at a cost of nearly ₹50 lakh. Over the past year, the unit has provided treatment to around 990 newborns, significantly strengthening neonatal healthcare in the district.
To improve emergency medical services, the hospital has also added a new ambulance worth ₹20 lakh.
Highlighting the hospital’s clinical performance over the last two years, Rao said the facility performed 2,081 orthopaedic surgeries, 6,478 general surgeries, 216 dental surgeries and 3,096 cataract surgeries.
The hospital also recorded significant utilisation of diagnostic services, conducting more than 40,900 ultrasound scans, 2,355 two-dimensional echocardiography (2D Echo) tests and 32,038 electrocardiograms (ECGs) during the same period.
In addition, the hospital facilitated 5,067 deliveries, while more than 5.12 lakh patients received free medicines through the hospital pharmacy, reflecting the institution’s growing role in providing accessible public healthcare.
The MLA announced that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has sanctioned ₹51 crore to upgrade the hospital into a 100-bed healthcare facility, with the expanded infrastructure expected to become operational early next year.
Rao also acknowledged the contributions of Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, District Collector Harsha, the hospital superintendent, doctors and healthcare staff for their efforts in improving healthcare delivery and strengthening medical services in the district.
