Major Boost to Public Healthcare in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will lay the foundation stone for the new Osmania General Hospital (OGH) on Friday, January 31, marking a significant step in upgrading the city’s public healthcare infrastructure.

The hospital, to be built at Goshamahal, will span 32 lakh square feet and adhere to National Medical Commission (NMC) and Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) norms. The 2,000-bed facility aims to revolutionize medical services in the state.

State-of-the-Art Medical Facilities

According to an official release, the new hospital will feature:

  • 29 major and 12 minor operation theatres
  • Robotic surgery units and a dedicated transplant theatre
  • Modern utilities like a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), and biomedical waste management system
  • 30 medical departments, including eight new super-specialties
  • A new academic block for Nursing, Dental, and Physiotherapy colleges

To enhance infrastructure resilience, the hospital will have an independent power substation, fire station, and emergency response systems.

Enhanced Patient and Visitor Amenities

The design incorporates:

  • Spacious reception areas, waiting halls, canteens, and cafeterias
  • Restrooms and designated spaces for staff, patients, and visitors
  • A ground-plus-two-level parking facility
  • Redesigned roads with No-Signal junctions and tactical underpasses for traffic management
  • Helipads for emergency medical evacuations and organ transplant transfers

Bridging the Infrastructure Gap

Currently, Osmania General Hospital caters to over 3,000 outpatients and 1,200 inpatients daily, performing 100–150 major surgeries. However, its existing 7.5 lakh square feet facility is inadequate for Hyderabad’s growing population. The new hospital, with a minimum 30 lakh square feet as mandated by NMC norms, will bridge this gap and provide cutting-edge medical services for the city.
