New Delhi – Dr. Parmeswaran, a 31-year-old ENT surgeon from Tamil Nadu, who sustained critical injuries during a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has been declared stable and moved out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at AIIMS Trauma Centre, according to hospital sources.
The young surgeon was vacationing in the region with his wife, Dr. Nayanthara Aravind, when the couple was caught in the crossfire. He was shot in the neck and abdomen and also suffered a fractured right arm. Despite the severity of his injuries, timely intervention and multiple emergency surgeries at Anantnag Medical College enabled his survival before he was airlifted to Delhi on April 22 for further treatment.
He is now under close observation at the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre at AIIMS, where he has begun physiotherapy. Doctors said the focus is on restoring mobility in his arm and improving overall recovery. “He is young, fit, and incredibly fortunate to have survived,” said one of the attending physicians.
According to hospital officials, physiotherapy began earlier this morning and will continue over the coming days as part of his post-operative rehabilitation.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Lokmanya Tilak, the maternal uncle of Dr. Nayanthara, recalled the tense moments following the shooting. “She showed extraordinary courage. She helped him sit on a chair outside an eatery and sought help from the locals. It was with assistance from the local police that they were able to reach the hospital,” he said.
The family, especially Dr. Nayanthara, has been under immense emotional stress since the attack, but relief is now setting in as Dr. Parmeswaran’s condition improves steadily.
