Chennai: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate the newly constructed building of Periyar Nagar Government Hospital on February 28. This development comes under the North Chennai Development Project, aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the region.

Key Developments & Upgrades:

  • Hospital Expansion: Originally a 100-bed facility, it was upgraded to 300 beds in May 2021.
  • New Building Cost: Constructed at a cost of ₹71.81 crore under the World Bank project.
  • Equipment Procurement: Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation received ₹84.17 crore for medical equipment purchases.
  • Further Expansion: Hospital capacity will be increased to 860 beds with upgraded facilities.

Cardiology, Accident & Emergency, ICU, Dialysis, and Blood Bank
MRI, AC Patient Wards, 5 Elevators, and Modern Laundry
Central Sterile Supplies Department & Central Pharmacy
Advanced Laboratory and a Help Desk

Healthcare Workforce Strengthened:

A total of 803 staff will be appointed, including:
👨‍⚕️ 102 Doctors
👩‍⚕️ 236 Nurses
🛠 79 Non-Medical Staff
📑 20 Ministerial Staff
🔧 126 Multidisciplinary Hospital Staff
🧹 240 Sanitation Staff

Impact on North Chennai’s Healthcare:

  • The hospital receives over 5,000 OPD patients daily across specialties like gynecology, obstetrics, pediatrics, neurology, oncology, and urology.
  • Health Minister Ma Subramanian stated that the hospital will now function on par with medical college hospitals, reducing referrals and decreasing patient load at other major hospitals.

This initiative is expected to significantly boost healthcare accessibility for the residents of North Chennai, ensuring better treatment and faster medical response times.
