Mohali: The Mohali Civil Hospital has witnessed a significant decline in rankings, slipping to the 14th position in the latest Kayakalp survey 2024-25. The hospital managed to score 64.61 out of 100, failing to meet the required 70-point threshold for official ranking.

Key Findings of the Kayakalp Survey:

  • Increased Patient Referrals: Due to inadequate infrastructure, patients are being referred to hospitals in Chandigarh (Sector 16, Sector 32, and PGI).
  • Government Negligence Alleged: Bedi accused the government of prioritizing publicity over actual healthcare improvements and failing to utilize central grants for health services.

Urgent Calls for Action:

  • Bedi has demanded the Punjab health minister’s immediate intervention to rectify the hospital’s deficiencies.
  • Accountability & Corrective Measures: He urged strict action against officials responsible for the hospital’s deteriorating condition.

Recent Developments:

Newly appointed Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain conducted an inspection and found insufficient medical facilities. She has issued directives for improvement, emphasizing the need for urgent upgrades.

Public Health Concern:

Mohali, known as Punjab’s mini-capital, has a large population dependent on government hospitals for affordable healthcare. The hospital’s decline is not just about rankings but a serious concern for public health and accessibility to medical care.
