Jammu: In a shocking case of medical negligence, two doctors in Baramulla district, Jammu & Kashmir, have been suspended and banned from private practice after allegedly performing a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) instead of an ear surgery on a female patient.
The incident, which took place on February 3, 2025, at Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital in Sopore, led to a public outcry after the news went viral on social media. Following this, the government sealed the hospital’s operation theatre and initiated a formal probe.
Actions Taken by Authorities:
✔ Suspended Doctors:
1️⃣ Dr. Anjum Nazir (Consultant Gynaecologist, SDH Sopore)
2️⃣ Dr. Tariq Ahmad Dar (Medical Officer, DH Bandipora, Diploma in Anesthesia)
✔ Private Practice Ban: Both doctors are prohibited from engaging in private practice anywhere in Jammu & Kashmir.
✔ Operation Theatre Sealed: The OT at Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital will remain sealed until the investigation concludes.

Health Minister Sakina Itoo stated on X (formerly Twitter):

Secretary Health Syed Abid Rasheed Shah emphasized that the suspensions ensure a fair and impartial probe.

- A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
- Sopore Block Medical Officer Dr. Zulfikar Nabi confirmed that an inquiry is underway, but no official conclusions can be made yet.
