Deputy Commissioner Orders Explanation and Salary Deductions for Absent Employees

Shopian: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district discovered that over 90% of employees, including doctors, were absent from duty during a surprise inspection at the District Hospital. Conducted by the additional deputy commissioner at 10:10 a.m., the inspection revealed only 17 out of 198 staff members present, according to biometric attendance records.

Impact and Disciplinary Measures

The absence of medical and administrative staff reportedly caused significant inconvenience to the public. In response, the deputy commissioner’s office issued a circular mandating a one-day salary deduction for unauthorized absences, to be credited to the District Red Cross Society.

Call for Explanations

The hospital’s medical superintendent has been instructed to obtain explanations from absent employees regarding their negligence and unprofessional behavior. Employees must submit their responses within three days; failure to do so will result in disciplinary action and salary deductions as per the relevant Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services Rules.
