NEW DELHI: In a landmark decision that aims to uphold fairness and uniformity, the Supreme Court of India has ordered that the NEET-PG 2025 examination be conducted in a single shift, scrapping the earlier plan to hold it in two separate sessions. The verdict comes in response to a petition highlighting the potential inequities of a two-shift format.

🏛️ Why the Court Intervened

The Supreme Court bench observed that multiple shifts in a high-stakes national examination like NEET-PG could introduce inconsistencies in question paper difficulty, potentially compromising the integrity of the results. The Court emphasized that uniform conditions are crucial for a competitive examination that determines postgraduate medical placements across India.

“For an exam of national importance, uniformity in assessment conditions is not just ideal—it is essential,” the bench stated.

📅 NEET-PG 2025 Date Confirmed

The NEET-PG 2025 will be conducted on June 15, 2025, in a single shift. This brings clarity and relief to thousands of medical aspirants across the country who had expressed concerns over possible unfairness in a two-shift structure.

📝 NBE to Rework Logistics

Following the directive, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) will need to revise its logistical plans to accommodate all candidates in a single session. This includes:

  • Securing larger exam venues
  • Increasing the number of invigilators
  • Coordinating real-time nationwide examination operations

Despite the increased logistical burden, the move is being widely seen as a necessary step toward ensuring transparency and equal opportunity.

🎓 Medical Aspirants and Educators Welcome Decision

The Court’s intervention has been well received by both aspiring postgraduate medical candidates and educators. Many had long voiced their concerns over the two-shift system, citing the risk of varying question difficulty levels impacting rankings and future career opportunities.

“This decision restores confidence in the exam process and ensures a level playing field,” said a senior medical educator.
