Patients Allege Delays in Services, Lack of Cleanliness and Inadequate Staff at District-Level AYUSH Facility
Patients visiting the District Ayurvedic Hospital in Una are reportedly facing serious inconvenience due to staff shortages and poor sanitation management, raising concerns over the quality of healthcare services being provided at the district-level Ayurvedic facility.
According to local residents and patients, repeated complaints regarding administrative inefficiencies and unhygienic conditions inside the hospital have failed to bring noticeable improvements. Visitors alleged that the lack of manpower has significantly affected patient care, leading to delays in routine medical services and longer waiting times.
Sanitation Concerns Raise Health Risks
One of the major concerns highlighted by patients and attendants is the poor maintenance of sanitation facilities across the hospital premises. Several garbage bins installed in different sections of the hospital were reportedly found uncovered, creating unhygienic conditions within the facility.
With summer temperatures continuing to rise, residents fear that inadequate cleanliness and waste management could increase the risk of infections and other health complications for patients seeking treatment at the hospital.
Laboratory Services Disrupted Due to Staff Crunch
The hospital is reportedly operating with only one lab assistant, severely affecting diagnostic services. On Wednesday, laboratory testing services remained completely unavailable after the lone lab assistant went on leave.
As a result, many patients who had travelled from distant areas for medical examinations and diagnostic tests were unable to access the required services and had to return without treatment.
Patients and local residents stated that the growing popularity of Ayurvedic treatment has increased the burden on the hospital, but staffing levels have not been improved accordingly.
Demand for Additional Staff at Ayurvedic Hospital
Former councillor Navdeep Kashyap urged authorities to appoint at least two lab assistants to ensure uninterrupted laboratory services and improve patient care at the hospital.
District Ayurvedic Officer Dr. Kiran Sharma acknowledged the shortage of staff and confirmed that the matter has already been brought to the notice of higher authorities. She also assured that steps would be taken to improve sanitation and address the deficiencies in hospital management at the earliest.
Rising Dependence on AYUSH Facilities Highlights Infrastructure Challenges
The situation at the Una District Ayurvedic Hospital reflects broader challenges faced by several government-run AYUSH healthcare centres, where increasing patient footfall is often not matched by adequate staffing and infrastructure support.
Healthcare observers say that timely recruitment of medical and support staff, along with strict sanitation monitoring, will be crucial to ensuring quality healthcare services for patients relying on Ayurvedic treatment facilities.
