Dr Gopalakrishnan Nair, a respected figure in Kerala’s medical community, passes away in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram – In a deeply saddening incident, Dr G. Gopalakrishnan Nair, a senior Medical Administrator at AJ Hospital, collapsed on Wednesday morning just after stepping out of his car and later died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.

A native of Venmeli in Konni, Pathanamthitta, Dr Gopalakrishnan had reportedly left his son’s residence in Kazhakuttam to report for duty at AJ Hospital. According to hospital sources, he collapsed suddenly after getting out of his vehicle. He was rushed to the ICU at AJ Hospital and later transferred to another private facility in Thiruvananthapuram, where he succumbed despite extensive medical efforts.

Long-Serving and Respected Physician

Dr Gopalakrishnan was well-regarded in Kerala’s medical fraternity, having served at numerous prestigious institutions over his career, including:

  • Azizia Medical College, Kollam
  • Neyyattinkara NIMS Hospital
  • Jubilee Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram
  • Muthoot Medical Care, Pathanamthitta
  • Believers Medical Centre, Konni

He had been residing with his family in Kazhakuttam for several years and was known for his professional dedication and compassionate nature.

Condolences from Medical Community

AJ Hospital released a heartfelt statement mourning his passing:

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. G. Gopalakrishnan Nair, our esteemed Medical Administrator. His wisdom, dedication, and compassion will always remain in our hearts. Heartfelt condolences from AJ Hospital Management & Staff.”

The funeral was held in Konni, his hometown, where family, friends, and colleagues gathered to pay their respects and recall his legacy as a devoted healer and kind-hearted individual.

Recent Incidents Highlight Stress in Medical Fraternity

This tragedy follows similar recent incidents involving healthcare professionals. As reported earlier, a Goa-based dental surgeon died of a heart attack just hours after completing a 32 km marathon, and in another case, a medical officer in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, died of a suspected heart attack while in judicial custody.

These incidents have once again raised concerns about the health and stress levels among medical professionals across the country.
