Karnataka introduces real-time AI tracking in PPP dialysis programme, aiming to match private healthcare standards

Bengaluru: In a major step towards improving public healthcare services, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced the launch of an AI-enabled monitoring system designed to enhance patient safety and treatment quality in the state’s public-private partnership (PPP) dialysis programme.

The system was inaugurated at KC General Hospital, marking a significant push to bring government-supported dialysis services on par with private healthcare standards.

AI to Strengthen Dialysis Care Quality

The newly introduced technology enables real-time monitoring of critical treatment parameters such as blood pressure, fluid removal, and electrolyte balance during dialysis sessions. This continuous oversight is expected to significantly improve patient outcomes by ensuring timely interventions.

Developed by NephroPlus, the system is currently operational across seven dialysis centres in Karnataka.

28 Key Parameters Under Continuous Surveillance

The AI platform tracks as many as 28 essential parameters, covering not only clinical indicators but also operational and safety aspects. These include patient care quality, hygiene standards, infection control, bed availability, staff responsiveness, and emergency preparedness.

By replacing traditional periodic audits with an always-on monitoring mechanism, the system offers a more transparent and efficient governance model.

Data-Driven Decisions for Better Outcomes

Officials highlighted that the platform empowers administrators and clinical teams to make informed, data-driven decisions through continuous performance tracking. This ensures consistency in treatment quality across multiple centres.
