Two Patients Allegedly Die Amidst Protest at MBS Hospital
Kota: Resident doctors at Maharao Bheem Singh (MBS) Hospital staged a four-hour work boycott on Monday night after an alleged assault on a resident doctor by attendants of an injured patient in the emergency ward. While hospital authorities assured that senior doctors managed patient care during the protest, families of two accident victims claimed that the strike led to their deaths.
The protest began around 10 PM after Dr. Aman, a surgery department resident, was allegedly manhandled by a patient’s attendants when he inquired about the patient’s alcohol consumption history. Witnesses said the attendants responded aggressively, with one of them grabbing Dr. Aman’s collar and slapping him.
The doctors resumed their duties only after police arrested the accused, identified as Golu, around 2 AM. “A case has been registered under the BNS Act and Rajasthan Medical Practitioner Safety Act for obstructing government duty and assaulting a doctor,” said Nayapura police station CI Rajpal Singh.
Families Allege Negligence Amid Strike
Meanwhile, relatives of two critically injured individuals alleged that the doctors’ boycott resulted in a delay in treatment, leading to the deaths of Nadil Khan (20) and Shahid Khan (21), both from Keshoraipatan town in Bundi district.
The victims were brought to MBS Hospital around midnight after sustaining severe injuries in a road accident on the Kota-Lalsot Mega Highway. Family members claimed they were neglected by hospital staff and had to take the victims to a private hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
“When we arrived at the hospital around midnight, no doctor attended to them. We were forced to shift them to a private hospital, but it was too late,” said Shahid’s uncle.
However, hospital superintendent Dr. Dharmraj Meena denied the allegations. “I personally witnessed their examination. ECG and CPR were performed, but they were brought dead,” he stated.
