A tragic incident has shocked the medical community as a well-known cardiothoracic surgeon from Kerala lost his life during a spiritual visit to Varanasi.
Dr. Mohan Krishnan, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, was reported missing while taking a holy dip in the Ganga River on Saturday morning. He had traveled to the holy city with his wife and family as part of a pilgrimage.
Body Recovered Near Mansarovar Ghat
According to reports, his body was later recovered from Mansarovar Ghat, approximately 200 meters downstream from the spot where he disappeared. Authorities promptly shifted the body to a government hospital in Shivpur for postmortem examination.
His last rites are scheduled to be performed at the sacred Manikarnika Ghat, one of the most revered cremation sites in India.
Family to Return After Final Rituals
Family members, including his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, are expected to return home after completing the funeral rites in Varanasi. Additional rituals will be conducted later in his hometown in Thiruvananthapuram.
A Life Dedicated to Medicine and Service
Dr. Krishnan was widely respected for his expertise in cardiothoracic surgery and his compassionate approach toward patient care. An alumnus of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, he served in its cardiothoracic department for several years and eventually retired as a professor.
Even after retirement, he continued to serve patients at Sree Ramakrishna Hospital in Sasthamangalam, earning admiration for prioritizing service over financial gain.
Colleagues Mourn Sudden Loss
The news of his untimely demise has left colleagues and friends in deep shock. Known for his humility and dedication, Dr. Krishnan was also an active member of the Kannammoola Sree Narayana Club.
Beyond medicine, he had a deep passion for travel and spirituality. Despite being over 70, he remained energetic and enthusiastic, frequently embarking on pilgrimages and trips. His visit to Varanasi was part of this enduring passion, with upcoming travel plans to Mumbai and Gujarat later this month.
