Rajkot — A 38-year-old widow has filed a police complaint against her father-in-law, a doctor, accusing him of sexual harassment and molestation. The complaint was lodged at the University police station in Rajkot, nearly eight months after the death of her husband.
According to the FIR, the woman’s husband passed away on August 21, 2023, due to a liver-related illness. Since then, she has been living alone with her young son. Her father-in-law, the accused, runs a medical store on Kothariya Main Road, while her mother-in-law is also a doctor operating a private clinic. Her brother-in-law works as a physiotherapist.
The complainant alleged that on May 19, 2024, during a family trip to Chitrakoot, the accused molested her at night while they were sharing a room. She claimed that he lay down next to her instead of his wife and touched her inappropriately. When she tried to wake her mother-in-law, the accused allegedly threatened her with serious consequences.
The next morning, upon confronting him, he allegedly threatened to withdraw financial support, the complaint states.
In another incident dated March 24, 2025, the woman said her father-in-law visited her house and claimed he no longer wished to live with his wife, expressing a desire to move in permanently. As her sister-in-law was present, she allowed him inside to avoid conflict. However, the situation escalated in the early hours of the next day when, at around 3:30 am, the accused allegedly entered her room and touched her inappropriately again.
The woman said she informed her father the following day, but the accused continued to threaten her, allegedly saying that the family’s strong connections could be used to defame her.
The University police station has registered the FIR and is currently investigating the matter.
