Rajahmundry: In a heartbreaking incident, a young radiologist from Rajahmundry lost her life due to Amniotic Fluid Embolism (AFE), a rare and life-threatening childbirth complication. The deceased, Dr Sreevani Imani, who had secured 1st rank in NEET in Andhra Pradesh, leaves behind a 4-year-old child. Her sudden passing has plunged her family, colleagues, and the medical community into deep grief.

Sudden Medical Emergency

According to reports, Dr Sreevani suffered a sudden respiratory collapse caused by AFE, a rare condition where amniotic fluid enters the maternal bloodstream, leading to severe cardiovascular and respiratory failure. Despite efforts, she could not be saved.

Tributes Pour In

Doctors across the country expressed shock and sorrow. One doctor wrote on X, “Life is painfully unpredictable. A young doctor, dedicated to her work and loved by her family, tragically passed away due to a sudden medical complication.”

A Brilliant Doctor Gone Too Soon

Dr Sreevani was widely respected for her dedication and academic brilliance. Securing the top state rank in NEET, she was considered one of the most promising young radiologists in Andhra Pradesh.

Growing Concern Over Doctors’ Health

This tragedy adds to a disturbing pattern of young doctors dying unexpectedly. Medical Dialogues recently reported several similar incidents, including:

  • A 42-year-old cardiology associate professor at Manakula Vinayaga Medical College who died of sudden cardiac arrest.
  • A critical care specialist and an anaesthesiologist in their late 30s and early 40s, respectively, who also succumbed to cardiac events.
  • A cardiac surgeon who collapsed during rounds due to a massive heart attack.

Experts Warn of Rising Risks

Experts cite extreme working hours, chronic stress, sleep deprivation, and unhealthy lifestyle patterns as major contributors to these untimely deaths. The recurring tragedies have sparked conversations about the urgent need for systemic reforms to prioritise doctors’ mental and physical well-being.

Community in Mourning

Dr Sreevani’s passing is being mourned statewide, with colleagues describing her as “brilliant, compassionate, and deeply committed to her profession.” The loss of such a young and talented doctor is being felt heavily across Andhra Pradesh’s medical fraternity.
