‘Saving Lives and Building a Healthier Bharat’ Initiative Inaugurated at Lok Bhavan

Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the nationwide campaign ‘Saving Lives and Building a Healthier Bharat’ in Mumbai. The initiative, organised by P. D. Hinduja Hospital, was launched at Lok Bhavan with the aim of strengthening emergency care awareness and promoting accessible healthcare across the country.

Addressing the gathering, the President highlighted the significant strides taken by the Government of India over the past decade to ensure universal access to quality healthcare. She noted that more than 1.8 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are delivering healthcare services across the nation.

She further underlined the impact of Ayushman Bharat Yojana, described as the world’s largest health insurance scheme, which provides health coverage of ₹5 lakh per family per year for nearly 12 crore families for hospitalization expenses.

The President also referred to major national health initiatives such as Mission Indradhanush, the TB-Free India Campaign, and the Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Mission, stating that these programs are playing a crucial role in protecting citizens from life-threatening diseases.

Emphasising the importance of medical education and infrastructure, she said that MBBS and postgraduate seats have been significantly increased. New AIIMS institutions and medical colleges have been established in various states to expand access to quality healthcare services.

Speaking about emergency medical response, the President stressed the importance of the “golden hour” in saving lives. She mentioned that under the PM Relief Scheme, accident victims are entitled to cashless treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh to prevent loss of life due to delayed medical assistance.

Highlighting the role of technology, she said that artificial intelligence and innovation are transforming healthcare delivery. The government’s IndiaAI Mission is creating an ecosystem that supports AI-enabled healthcare solutions and promotes research and start-ups in the sector.

Concluding her address, the President stated that achieving the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 requires healthy citizens as its foundation. She expressed confidence that through collective efforts and initiatives like ‘Saving Lives and Building a Healthier Bharat’, India will emerge as a global destination for affordable, world-class healthcare services.
