Cyber Police Arrest Key Accused After Months-Long Hunt

A government doctor posted at Sadar Hospital in Ara, Bihar, was allegedly cheated of ₹19 lakh in a chilling case of digital arrest fraud. The victim was reportedly threatened with fabricated legal action and kept under intense psychological pressure by cybercriminals before being coerced into transferring the money.

According to police, the accused was arrested by the Bhojpur district cybercrime team from Vijay Nagar in New Delhi after remaining absconding for several months. He is originally from Bharatpur in Rajasthan and is said to hold an LLM degree from a reputed law college in Jaipur, though officials noted his attendance had been irregular.

The victim lodged a formal complaint on July 1, 2025. As per the police statement, the incident began on June 26 when the doctor received a call from a man posing as an ATS officer, claiming that an arrest warrant had been issued against him by a district court in Pune.

The caller allegedly provided a fake case number and claimed the doctor was involved in a serious offence. The fraudster then placed the victim under what is commonly referred to as a “digital arrest,” threatening severe legal consequences and instructing him not to inform anyone or leave his residence.

Under fear and pressure, the doctor was allegedly forced to transfer ₹19 lakh to bank accounts provided by the accused. Police said the psychological manipulation and intimidation were key tactics used to extort the money.

Acting on the directions of the Bhojpur Superintendent of Police, a special cyber police team was constituted under the leadership of DSP-cum-SHO Sneh Setu to trace the accused. After tracking him for nearly seven months, the team finally managed to apprehend him in Delhi.

During the investigation, police also found alleged involvement of a deputy bank manager suspected of facilitating the opening of multiple accounts. A notice has been issued to him, and his role is currently under scrutiny.

Interrogation of the arrested accused revealed the names of several alleged accomplices. Police are now verifying their involvement as further investigation continues to uncover the full extent of the digital arrest scam network.
