Rohtak, Haryana: A disturbing case of harassment, abuse, and physical assault has come to light from the Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGIDS), Rohtak, where a third-year postgraduate student has accused Professor Dr Ravinder Solanki of subjecting him to mental and physical abuse over a prolonged period.
The student, Dr Mohan, alleged that the abuse began in his first year of residency, escalating to verbal threats, erratic personal demands, and even physical assault. He claimed Dr Solanki used his alleged political and criminal connections to create an atmosphere of fear and control within the department.
“He made us run personal errands like fetching tea, threatened us, and even assaulted me in front of senior faculty who did nothing,” said Dr Mohan.
In a significant development, the institute has now relieved Dr Solanki of all supervisory duties over PG students in the Oral Surgery Department. The decision follows widespread outrage on social media, with several health activists, including Dr Dhruv Chauhan, highlighting the issue on platform X (formerly Twitter).
An official institute order states:
“As approved by the competent authority, the supervision work of all Post Graduate Students of Oral Surgery deptt., PGIDS Rohtak is hereby withdrawn from Dr Ravinder Solanki. He is also directed not to come in direct or indirect contact with aggrieved PG students as a precautionary measure till outcome of enquiry.”
This action is being seen as a “small victory” for student safety and accountability in medical institutions.
Inquiry Underway
An internal inquiry committee has been constituted, and faculty members are expected to be questioned. Student associations and medical professionals have called for strict disciplinary action if the allegations are proven true.
Meanwhile, the incident has raised larger concerns over the culture of bullying, hierarchy, and unchecked power within India’s medical education institutions.
The PG student community at PGIDS Rohtak has expressed hope that this case will set a precedent against harassment and encourage others to speak up without fear.
