Ahmedabad | In a significant crackdown on illegal medical practices, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Rural Police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly running an unauthorised allopathic clinic in Saraswatinagar, located under the Changodar police station limits.
Class 12 Pass Man Posed as Qualified Doctor
The accused, a native of Purbanagar in Nadia district, West Bengal, had been residing in Saraswatinagar, Changodar. Despite holding no recognised medical qualification and having studied only up to Class 12, he had been operating a home-based clinic and treating patients using allopathic medicines.
Authorities confirmed that the man had no registration or license to practise medicine and was in clear violation of the Gujarat Medical Practitioners Act, 1963.
Operation Conducted with Health Department Support
The operation was conducted in coordination with Dr. Kantibhai Kapadia, the Medical Officer-in-Charge at Sanathal Primary Health Centre. During the raid, officials recovered a substantial quantity of allopathic drugs and medical equipment, including materials from various pharmaceutical companies.
The estimated value of the seized items stands at ₹40,696, police sources confirmed.
FIR Registered Under Gujarat Medical Act
Following the raid, an FIR was filed at the Changodar police station under the Gujarat Medical Practitioners Act, 1963, which explicitly prohibits individuals without proper medical registration from offering healthcare services.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to determine if the accused’s unauthorized treatments resulted in any harm to patients. Authorities are also tracking potential suppliers of the seized medicines and equipment.
Part of Broader Crackdown on Quack Clinics
This arrest comes as part of an ongoing district-wide crackdown on unqualified medical practitioners posing as doctors. In recent months, multiple illegal clinics have been busted across Gujarat, including similar incidents reported in the Changodar and Dholeshwarnagar areas.
In a previously reported case, the Ahmedabad Rural SOG had arrested another man in Moraiya village, also near Changodar, for operating a fully equipped clinic without a medical license. That individual was identified as a resident of Mandalhar village in West Bengal’s Nadia district.
