Chaibasa: In a tragic incident, a 40-year-old patient died after allegedly jumping from the third floor of Sadar Hospital in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, police said.

Patient Identified as Pradhan Honhaga

The deceased has been identified as Pradhan Honhaga, who had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for the past few days. According to police, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Sunday, when Honhaga reportedly jumped from the third floor of the building.

Police Launch Investigation

A police officer confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officers are probing whether negligence or lack of supervision may have contributed to the tragedy.

Body Sent for Post-Mortem

Authorities stated that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further action will be taken based on the findings. Forensic experts are expected to assist in determining the exact cause of death.

CCTV Footage Under Review

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the hospital premises to reconstruct the sequence of events. Statements from hospital staff, security personnel, and other patients are also being recorded to verify whether adequate safety protocols were in place.

Case of Unnatural Death Registered

A case of unnatural death has been registered, and police are awaiting the post-mortem and forensic reports before arriving at any conclusion. Preliminary findings suggest that Honhaga may have acted on impulse, but the investigation remains open.

Similar Incident Reported in Madhya Pradesh

In a similar case earlier this month, a 30-year-old patient died after allegedly jumping from a district hospital building in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district. The deceased in that case was identified as Shubham Ahirwar, a resident of Emlayi village, around 450 km from Bhopal.

Focus on Hospital Safety and Mental Health

The back-to-back incidents have raised questions about hospital safety and patient monitoring systems. Authorities are now under pressure to ensure proper supervision of patients, particularly those under distress or long-term treatment, to prevent such tragedies in the future.
