Lucknow: The Senior Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of a government hospital in Birsinghpur, Dr. Bhaskar Prasad, has been suspended and booked after allegedly making objectionable remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The suspension follows the circulation of a viral video showing a heated exchange between the doctor and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders.
Video Sparks Controversy
The controversy erupted after a video went viral on social media, showing a conversation between AAP state spokesperson Vanshraj Dubey and Dr. Bhaskar Prasad. The AAP delegation had reportedly gone to the government hospital in Birsinghpur to protest against poor facilities, absentee doctors, and a shortage of medicines.
Objectionable Remarks Caught on Camera
During the exchange, Vanshraj Dubey was heard saying, “If the hospital’s condition doesn’t improve, we will take out your funeral procession.” To this, Dr. Bhaskar allegedly replied, “If you want to take out a funeral procession, take out the government’s or Yogi’s, why mine?” The remark triggered outrage and was widely shared on social media.
FIR Registered Following Complaint
A local BJP leader lodged a complaint at Jaisinghpur police station, accusing Dr. Prasad of using indecent language against the government and the Chief Minister. Acting on the complaint, police registered an FIR against him under relevant sections.
Probe Ordered by Health Department
Following the controversy, Additional Director (Health) Ayodhya, Dr. Brijesh Kumar Singh Chauhan, visited the hospital to conduct an inquiry. He interacted with patients and reviewed hospital operations. The inquiry confirmed irregularities, including that patients were being prescribed medicines from outside—violating government hospital norms.
Suspension Order Issued
Based on the investigation, the Joint Secretary of the Department of Medical Health & Family Welfare issued an official suspension order against Dr. Bhaskar Prasad under Rule 4(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1999. The order cited use of indecent language, objectionable remarks against the State Government, misbehavior with patients, and mismanagement of hospital procedures.
Terms of Suspension
As per the order, Dr. Bhaskar will receive subsistence allowance during his suspension period, and his headquarters will remain the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Jaunpur. He has been instructed not to leave the headquarters without permission. The order came into immediate effect upon issuance.
Doctor Denies Wrongdoing
Responding to the allegations, Dr. Bhaskar Prasad told Dainik Bhaskar that his comments were misinterpreted. “I went to receive a memorandum from the AAP leader on the SDM’s orders. I didn’t know some people were secretly recording videos as part of a conspiracy. My intentions were not wrong,” he said.
Summary:
The suspension of Dr. Bhaskar Prasad has reignited debate over the conduct of government officials and the political sensitivities surrounding public remarks. A departmental inquiry is underway, and further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
