
Nine-Year-Old Rape Survivor Dies Amid Claims of Hours-Long Wait for Hospital Bed at PMCH
Patna, Bihar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of media reports surrounding the tragic death of a nine-year-old Dalit girl who was a victim of rape and brutal assault in Muzaffarpur district. The child reportedly succumbed to her injuries at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after being made to wait in an ambulance for several hours before receiving medical attention.
The incident allegedly occurred on May 26, 2025, and the critically injured minor was brought to PMCH on May 30, but her treatment was delayed due to the unavailability of a hospital bed. She died shortly after admission.
NHRC Issues Notice to Bihar Authorities
Terming the incident a grave violation of human rights, the NHRC issued notices to Bihar’s Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, seeking a detailed report within two weeks. The Commission emphasized that if the allegations are true, the negligence involved highlights serious systemic lapses in both law enforcement and healthcare delivery.
