New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission intervened in a case of the death of pregnant women due to the medical negligence of the government doctor of Lalbagh Sub-Divisional Hospital, Murshidabad and directed the West Bengal Government to pay Rs.3.75 Lakhs as compensation to the kin of the deceased patient. The commission has held the West Bengal Government vicarious liable for the acts of the government doctors. Also, the State Medical Council has been asked to initiate “disciplinary action” against the negligent doctor for the incident. The NHRC has registered a case on the complaint and in the enquiry it was revealed that the doctors who was on the duty was not present in the hospital and instead gave instruction to the nurses on phone. He attended the patient after a delay of five hours.
