A fire broke out at the Mother and Child Block of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on Thursday evening, prompting the deployment of 10 fire tenders to the spot. Officials confirmed that no casualties occurred in the incident.
According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a call regarding the fire was received around 5.15 pm. Firefighters, along with the AIIMS in-house response team, swiftly initiated operations and brought the situation under control.
AIIMS later issued a statement clarifying that the smoke originated from the service floor due to a short circuit in the indoor unit of an air conditioner installed in a laboratory. “With the swift response of the AIIMS fire response team and Delhi Fire Services, the site of the smoke was identified and controlled immediately. No major evacuation was required, and patient care remained unaffected,” the hospital stated.
Earlier this week, a more serious fire broke out at Kosmos Hospital in Anand Vihar, East Delhi, leaving one dead and at least 10 injured. The cause of that blaze is still under investigation.
