Hospitals Given One Week to Comply With Fire Safety, Electrical Audit and Licensing Requirements
NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued rectification notices to 21 private hospitals across the city after inspections revealed non-compliance with mandatory healthcare and safety regulations. The hospitals have been directed to address the deficiencies within one week or face strict action, including possible cancellation of their operating licences.
According to NMC records, around 625 registered private hospitals and nursing homes operate under its jurisdiction. As per existing regulations, these healthcare facilities are required to renew their licences every three years, while the civic body conducts inspections twice annually to ensure adherence to prescribed norms.
A senior official from the NMC Health and Medical Department stated that the notices were issued after several hospitals were found violating mandatory requirements related to electrical audits, fire safety measures and other periodic compliance obligations.
“This is an improvement notice issued to 21 private hospitals found to be non-compliant with norms related to electrical audits, fire safety and other mandatory requirements. Hospitals have been given one week to rectify the violations, failing which strict action, including licence cancellation, may be initiated,” the official said.
Large-Scale Inspection Drive Uncovers Violations
Last month, the municipal corporation carried out a city-wide inspection drive to verify licence renewals and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. More than 100 employees from the health department, along with staff from 30 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs), participated in the exercise.
Inspection teams scrutinised registration and licensing documents, mandatory certificates, staffing details, bed capacity records, display of treatment charges and other operational requirements. The inspection revealed compliance-related shortcomings in 21 hospitals, prompting the issuance of notices.
Focus on Patient Safety and Transparency
NMC officials said the enforcement drive is part of the civic body’s broader efforts to strengthen patient safety standards, improve the quality of healthcare services and enhance transparency in private medical institutions operating within the city.
The municipal corporation has also announced that similar inspections will be conducted every six months to ensure continued compliance with regulatory norms and prevent future violations.
The move is expected to strengthen accountability among private healthcare providers and ensure that hospitals maintain essential safety and operational standards for patient care.
