New Delhi: The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (Mohfw) in a bid to reform the National Medical Commission (NMC) has invited applications to fill posts at the country’s medical education regulators following a management crisis at the National Medical Commission (NMC). The Ministry has sought applications for the posts of president, secretary and members of NMC, and key positions in the four boards under the NMC—the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB), Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB), Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) and Medical Assessment Rating Board (MARB).

The NMC has been facing management crisis and has raised the issue of reforms in NMC with the health ministry on several occasions. The four autonomous boards were facing internal crisis as well as they were working at cross-purposes which resulted in conflicting decisions among the boards. The same was much more noticeable while reviewing applications of the medical colleges to the health ministry. Considering these facts the health ministry has decided to overhaul the NMC & all the four boards under the NMC and as a first step it has invited applications for the key positions in the council and boards.
