Dr. Vagish Barnwal Brings National Recognition to Motilal Nehru Medical College, Prayagraj
In a significant academic achievement for Motilal Nehru Medical College (MNMC), Prayagraj, Dr. Vagish Barnwal, a third-year DM Gastroenterology student, has been honoured with the Best Case Award at the prestigious seventh edition of DRILLS 2026 (Decisions, Reasoning, Innovations & Learning in Liver Diseases) conference held in New Delhi.
The conference, organized by the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) on June 13 and 14, witnessed participation from nearly 1,500 delegates, including leading hepatologists, gastroenterologists, researchers, and clinicians from India and abroad. Around 400 complex liver disease cases were presented and discussed during the two-day scientific event.
Best Among 400 Challenging Liver Disease Cases
Among hundreds of presentations, Dr. Barnwal’s case study was selected as the best by an expert panel, earning him the conference’s highest recognition. The award reflects his clinical expertise, analytical skills, and commitment to advancing knowledge in gastroenterology and liver diseases.
Currently pursuing his DM in Gastroenterology at Motilal Nehru Medical College from December 2023 to December 2026, Dr. Barnwal has gained extensive experience in advanced gastrointestinal procedures, including upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, cholangioscopy, electrohydraulic lithotripsy (EHL), and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).
Strong Academic Journey
Before joining MNMC, Dr. Barnwal completed his MD in General Medicine from Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra, between 2020 and 2023. He earned his MBBS degree from King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, in 2019.
His achievement has brought national recognition to the institution and highlighted the quality of specialist medical training being offered at the government medical college.
HOD Dr. S.P. Mishra Receives Certificate of Appreciation
In recognition of his mentorship and academic guidance, Dr. S.P. Mishra, Head of the Department of Gastroenterology and a noted hepatologist, was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation during the conference.
Congratulating Dr. Barnwal, Dr. Mishra said that winning the top honour among nearly 400 case presentations in front of 1,500 delegates demonstrates the high academic standards, clinical competence, and dedication of the institution’s students. He noted that the achievement is a matter of pride for both the department and Motilal Nehru Medical College.
