Summit focuses on preventive healthcare, wellness promotion and healthy ageing through traditional Indian medicine systems

Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated the Sanyog ISM Yoga Summit 2026 at Dona Paula, reinforcing the state’s commitment to promoting yoga, Ayurveda and preventive healthcare. Organised by the Goa Council of Ayurvedic and Other Allied Indian Systems of Medicine in collaboration with the Department of Ayush, the summit centered on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

The event brought together healthcare experts, doctors, researchers and wellness practitioners to discuss the growing role of yoga, Ayurveda and integrated healthcare approaches in supporting healthy ageing and improving overall well-being. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sawant said the summit served as an important platform for exchanging ideas on preventive healthcare and strengthening awareness about traditional Indian systems of medicine.

A key highlight of the programme was the felicitation of doctors, clinics and hospitals for their contribution to the “Health with Ayurveda – Checked by Doctor 2.0” campaign. Organisers revealed that the initiative has benefited more than 40,000 citizens through ayurvedic consultations, health screenings and wellness guidance, demonstrating the increasing acceptance of preventive health practices among the public.

Speaking at the summit, Dr. Sawant noted that yoga and Ayurveda have gained significant global recognition in recent years and continue to showcase India’s rich wellness heritage. He added that Goa is actively contributing to this movement through initiatives focused on preventive healthcare, wellness tourism and integrated health systems.

Stakeholders Discuss Expanding Access to Ayurvedic Care

The summit also featured discussions on expanding access to ayurvedic healthcare services and improving public awareness regarding preventive health measures. Experts emphasized the importance of integrating traditional medical knowledge with structured healthcare delivery systems to enhance community health outcomes.

Participants highlighted that regular yoga practices, early health screenings and wellness guidance can play a crucial role in promoting healthier lifestyles, particularly among ageing populations. The discussions underscored the growing relevance of yoga and Ayurveda in public health strategies aimed at disease prevention and long-term wellness.

The programme concluded with a call for greater collaboration among healthcare professionals, wellness institutions and government agencies to strengthen accessible, evidence-informed and preventive healthcare services across Goa, while further advancing the role of AYUSH systems in public health promotion.
