Victim worked at convict’s hospital; court orders compensation to daughter
Mathura : A Fast Track Court in Mathura has sentenced a doctor to life imprisonment for raping a nurse employed at his hospital and abetting her suicide, a government advocate confirmed on Friday.
The verdict was delivered by Additional District Judge Sushil Kumar, who also imposed a fine of ₹80,000 on the convict, Dr Dharmendra Singh, operator of Mahi Nursing Home located on Sadabad Road in Vrindavan.
Half the Fine Awarded to Victim’s Daughter
Assistant District Government Counsel Subhash Chaturvedi said the court ordered that ₹40,000 of the fine amount be handed over to the deceased nurse’s daughter, recognising the emotional and financial toll on the child.
Incident Dates Back to May 2021
The case was registered based on an FIR lodged by the victim’s father, Omvir, on May 6, 2021. According to the complaint, Dr Singh raped the woman on May 1, 2021. The next day, she allegedly died by suicide, jumping into the Yamuna river. Her body was later recovered from Ahilyaganj.
Victim’s Background and Exploitation
The victim had previously been married, but the marriage ended shortly after she gave birth to a daughter. She returned to her parental home and began working at Dr Singh’s hospital. Prosecutors said Dr Singh exploited her vulnerability and committed the assault, which ultimately led to her suicide.
Police Action and Conviction
Following the complaint and recovery of a suicide note, Dr Singh was arrested. A charge sheet was filed on September 3, 2021, under IPC Sections 376 (rape) and 306 (abetment of suicide). On Thursday, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
