A total of 784 postgraduate (PG) doctors will be posted as senior residents in secondary and teaching hospitals across Andhra Pradesh for a mandatory one-year service starting January 1, 2025. The service tenure will be split evenly, with six months in teaching hospitals and six months in secondary hospitals.

Distribution Across Hospitals
Out of the total senior residents, 393 doctors will be deployed across 102 regional, social and district hospitals, while the remaining doctors will serve in 17 government teaching hospitals across the state. The move aims to strengthen specialist services at both district and tertiary levels.

Online Counselling to Ensure Transparency
The postings will be carried out through an online counselling system with no human involvement, officials said. The digital process has been introduced to ensure transparency and fairness in allotment of hospitals and specialities.

Honorarium Fixed at Rs 80,500
Senior residents will be paid a monthly honorarium of Rs 80,500, as per Government Order (GO) No. 723 issued on December 4, 2024. The remuneration is applicable uniformly across postings during the one-year service period.

Doctors from 23 Specialities Included
According to media reports, the 784 PG doctors belong to 23 specialities. Major disciplines include General Medicine (110), General Surgery (91), Gynaecology (87), Anaesthesiology (81), Paediatrics (58) and Orthopaedics (53), along with Radiology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology and non-clinical PG courses.

Eligibility Based on Convener Quota Admissions
Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said doctors admitted under the state convener quota in government and private medical colleges during the 2022–23 academic year, who have completed their PG courses, are required to compulsorily serve for one year in designated hospitals.

Reporting Deadline and Annual Policy
The minister said registration for postings was open till December 29 and doctors who received allotments must report for duty by January 5. He added that deployment of senior residents would continue every year as a policy, irrespective of existing vacancies.

Penalty Up to Rs 40 Lakh for Non-Compliance
Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr Raghunandan warned that doctors failing to complete mandatory service would face penalties of up to Rs 40 lakh, as stipulated in the bond signed at admission. For service candidates, the bond penalty can go up to Rs 50 lakh, along with a mandatory 10-year service obligation after completing in-service PG or super-speciality courses.
