Accused Allegedly Sent Threatening Messages Over Stalled Land Deal
Nagpur: A man has been booked for allegedly demanding ₹11 crore from a Nagpur-based doctor and threatening to blow up his hospital by crashing a gas cylinder-laden vehicle into it, police said on Wednesday.
The accused, Neeraj Gandhi, reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to Dr. Mahesh Fulwani, who had signed a land purchase deal with a Nagpur-based firm in 2017.
Land Dispute Led to Extortion Threats
Dr. Fulwani had agreed to purchase a plot in Somalwada for ₹13.50 crore in November 2017, but the deal stalled due to legal disputes over the land.
Later that year, Gandhi confronted Dr. Fulwani at his hospital, claiming he had already finalized a deal for the same property. He then began demanding ₹5 crore over the phone and allegedly threatened to implicate the doctor in a false case.
On August 26, 2024, Gandhi escalated his demands, messaging Dr. Fulwani that the dispute could be settled for ₹11 crore. When the doctor did not respond, Gandhi allegedly threatened to blow up the hospital by ramming a vehicle loaded with gas cylinders into it.
Police Register FIR, No Arrests Yet
After repeated threats, Dr. Fulwani approached the police, leading to an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). However, no arrests have been made yet, and the police are investigating the matter.
