
Thiruvananthapuram : Thiruvananthapuram witnessed another shocking attack on healthcare workers when a 28-year-old duty doctor, Amala E.P. from Wayanad, was assaulted at the government medical college hospital (MCH) on Friday morning. The accused, Navas (57), a resident of Muttathara, reportedly slapped, kicked, and held the doctor by her neck when she advised him not to remove a medical tube connected to his body.
Context of the Incident
Navas was admitted to the casualty ward with a head injury caused by a fall at home after he experienced seizures. During treatment, the incident occurred unexpectedly. Security guards quickly intervened, ensuring the doctor’s safety, and she received medical attention for her injuries.
Doctor’s Statement
“I don’t know what provoked him to attack me. His condition was not critical, though he had an internal head injury. After the incident, he was shifted to the ward, and I haven’t interacted with him since. Strict action is necessary to prevent such attacks on healthcare workers. We dedicate ourselves to saving lives, but what about our safety?” Dr. Amala expressed.
Legal Action
The police have registered a case against Navas under:
- Section 121(1): Causing harm to a public servant while performing duty.
- Section 132: Using criminal force against a public servant during duty.
Additionally, the case includes Sections 3 and 4 of the Kerala Healthcare Services Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2012.

“We have initiated legal proceedings and will arrest the accused once he recovers,” confirmed the police.
