
Pune : Pune police have arrested Kuldeep Adinath Sawant (30), a resident of Shankar Colony, Sangli district, from Navi Mumbai for his role in the tragic death of a 25-year-old doctor, Pallavi Popat Phadtare. Sawant allegedly lured Dr. Pallavi with false promises of marriage, cheated her of ₹10 lakhs, and caused her immense mental distress, ultimately leading to her suicide on January 7 in Bibvewadi.
Details of the Case
According to the Bibvewadi police, Kuldeep Sawant, who is married, registered himself as a single man on a matrimonial website. After initially meeting a complainant at Dehu, who rejected him due to suspicious behavior, Sawant turned his attention to Dr. Pallavi Popat Phadtare.
Dr. Pallavi, who had started a clinic in Bibvewadi’s Tuljabhavani Society, was deceived by Sawant’s false promises of marriage. Over time, he manipulated her emotionally and extorted ₹10 lakhs from her, citing various reasons.
The Betrayal and Consequences
When Dr. Pallavi insisted on marriage, Sawant revealed that he was already married and that his wife was pregnant. The revelation caused her immense emotional trauma. She demanded the return of her money, but Sawant ignored her pleas. Unable to cope with the betrayal, Dr. Pallavi consumed poison in her clinic on January 7.
Before her death, she left behind a suicide note detailing the circumstances. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she passed away during treatment on January 8.
Police Action
Following a complaint filed by her father, Popat Baburao Phadtare, the Bibvewadi police launched an investigation. Sawant was traced and arrested in Navi Mumbai. He has been charged with fraud and abetment of suicide, and the police are conducting further inquiries into the case.
