Latur, May 1 – Maharashtra’s Latur district is poised for substantial development in healthcare, industry, and infrastructure under the BJP-led Mahayuti government, said Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale, Minister for Public Works (excluding public enterprises) and Latur’s Guardian Minister. His remarks came after hoisting the national flag at the District Sports Complex on the occasion of Maharashtra’s 66th Foundation Day.
Healthcare Infrastructure Strengthened
Bhosale announced the establishment of a modern district hospital in Latur, addressing a long-pending demand. Advanced cardiac and neurological care is now available at the Vilasrao Deshmukh Government Medical College and Hospital. He added that primary health centres in rural regions are also being upgraded.
To streamline welfare services, Chief Minister Assistance Cells (Mukhyamantri Sahayata Nidhi Kaksha) will be launched in every district. These cells aim to simplify access to government aid for the poor, disabled, critically ill, and disaster-affected individuals.
Empowering Students and Promoting Horticulture
A large number of Scheduled Caste students in Latur have benefited from the Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Swadhar Yojana, according to the minister. Under MGNREGA, a fruit orchard plantation scheme is also being promoted to boost horticulture and provide sustainable livelihoods.
Water Conservation and Irrigation Projects
Highlighting efforts to address water scarcity, Bhosale said multiple initiatives under the Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan—including desilting dams and Amrutdhara water conservation schemes—are underway. The government has approved a Rs 17.70 crore action plan for rural areas and Rs 3.16 crore for urban settlements.
Industrial Investment and Connectivity
The minister said Latur is witnessing a new wave of industrialisation, with numerous investment agreements signed during District Investment Council meetings. These developments are expected to generate local employment opportunities.
In addition, the expansion of Latur airport is being expedited to improve the region’s connectivity and support economic growth.
100-Day Action Plan and Tribute
Latur was an active participant in the 100-day action plan initiated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accelerating infrastructure and service delivery. Bhosale also paid tribute to those killed in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir on April 22, and extended condolences to their families.
