Lucknow: A first-year MD medicine resident at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) attempted suicide on Tuesday by jumping off the roof of her hostel building, officials said.
The student, critically injured, is undergoing treatment at the trauma center of the university.
KGMU media spokesperson Dr. Sudhir Singh confirmed the incident, stating, “The resident doctor attempted suicide by jumping off the roof of Room No. 206 in the girls’ hostel. She is currently in the critical care facility of the trauma center. Diagnostic procedures, including a CT scan and blood tests, have been conducted. Her condition remains serious.”
The student, a native of Kanpur, is pursuing her first year of MD in medicine. Her parents have been informed, Dr. Singh added.
Preliminary police findings suggest job dissatisfaction may have driven the student to take the drastic step. “We are investigating the matter and questioning other hostel residents to gather more information,” a police official said.
The incident has shocked the university community, and authorities are urging students to reach out for mental health support.
