Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) has announced a statewide strike on November 13, 2025, withdrawing from all duties except emergency services. The move comes amid the state government’s continued inaction on long-pending demands, including salary revision, payment of arrears, and creation of new posts in government medical colleges.

Earlier, as part of their ongoing protest, doctors under the KGMCTA had declared a ‘work-to-rule’ agitation starting November 11, during which they would boycott all duties, including teaching, beyond official working hours.

In a statement, KGMCTA said, “The protest by Government Medical College doctors is intensifying as the State Government continues to ignore the serious concerns of doctors and the healthcare sector. Even at this crucial juncture, the government has failed to initiate any constructive dialogue with the protesting doctors.”

The association’s protest began on July 1, 2025, and has included several measures such as relay OP boycotts, including one held on October 20. Despite multiple appeals and demonstrations, the Health Department has not yet responded to their grievances, prompting the association to call for a complete strike.

KGMCTA has accused the government of neglecting the medical fraternity’s demands, which they say are crucial for ensuring the efficient functioning of medical education and healthcare services in the state. The association highlighted that salary arrears from 2016 to 2020 remain unpaid, and disparities in the pay structure for entry-level doctors have yet to be corrected.

Additionally, the doctors have demanded the creation of new teaching and clinical posts in government medical colleges to address increasing workloads and improve patient care standards.

According to KGMCTA members, all departments except emergency services will participate in the strike. They have warned that the government’s continued indifference could severely impact the functioning of medical colleges and hospitals across Kerala.

The association has reiterated that it remains open to dialogue but emphasized that without concrete action, the agitation will continue until their legitimate demands are met.
