Saharanpur: In a shocking development, a Kashmiri doctor working at a private hospital in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested and handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly putting up posters supporting the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Srinagar, officials said.
Accused Identified as Resident of Anantnag
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Vyom Bindal confirmed that the accused hails from the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. “The accused, a resident of Anantnag, was working at a private hospital in Saharanpur. He was taken into custody by the Srinagar police on Thursday in connection with a case registered there,” Bindal said, quoting a PTI report.
Investigation Linked to Srinagar Poster Case
According to police sources, the Srinagar Police had recently registered a case after posters promoting Jaish-e-Mohammed surfaced in multiple areas of the city. CCTV footage from the area captured a man pasting the posters, later identified as the accused doctor from Anantnag.
Joint Operation Leads to Arrest
Following technical surveillance and location tracking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police traced the accused to Saharanpur. A team from Srinagar, with assistance from Saharanpur Police and the Special Operations Group (SOG), conducted a joint raid at a private hospital on Ambala Road, where the doctor was arrested.
Transit Remand Granted to Srinagar Police
After his arrest, the accused was produced before a local court in Saharanpur, which granted a transit remand. He has since been handed over to the Srinagar Police for further interrogation and investigation into his alleged involvement in the terror-related case.
Local Intelligence Unit Put on Alert
ASP Vyom Bindal also revealed that several individuals from Jammu and Kashmir are currently employed in private hospitals and nursing homes in Saharanpur. The local intelligence unit (LIU) has been directed to verify their backgrounds and monitor their activities to ensure security compliance.
