Accused of Medical Negligence, Dr. Anushka Tiwari Faces Charges of Culpable Homicide
Kanpur: Dr. Anushka Tiwari, a dentist based in Kanpur, surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on Monday in connection with the deaths of two engineers who allegedly died following botched hair transplant procedures.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalyanpur) Abhishek Pandey, Dr. Tiwari had submitted a surrender application days earlier. “She appeared before the CJM court today and formally surrendered,” the officer told PTI.
Deaths Linked to Unlicensed Procedures at Private Clinic
The deaths occurred at Empire Clinic in Rawatpur, run by Dr. Tiwari and her husband, Dr. Saurabh Tripathi. One of the victims was Vineet Dubey, a 37-year-old Assistant Engineer, whose wife Jaya Tripathi filed a complaint through the chief minister’s grievance portal, alleging gross medical negligence.
Medical Dialogues previously reported that both victims underwent hair transplant procedures at the clinic before succumbing to complications. Investigations later revealed that untrained personnel were assisting in surgical procedures — a serious breach of medical protocol.
Culpable Homicide Case Registered
Following the complaints, police registered a case of culpable homicide against Dr. Tiwari. She had reportedly gone into hiding to avoid arrest, prompting a large-scale search operation, including involvement from the crime branch.
Now that she has surrendered voluntarily, police plan to seek custody remand to further investigate the case and gather evidence. “We will soon move an application for her custody to uncover the full truth and make necessary recoveries,” ACP Pandey stated.
Background: A Growing Concern Over Unauthorized Cosmetic Procedures
The case has raised serious concerns over the proliferation of unauthorized cosmetic surgeries conducted by professionals outside their scope of expertise. The use of unqualified staff and lack of adherence to medical safety norms have now come under legal scrutiny.
Police and medical authorities are expected to widen the probe into similar clinics operating in the region without proper certification or supervision.
