Mumbai: Mumbai Police have arrested Sudhanshu Yadav, a domestic help, for allegedly stealing diamond-studded gold jewellery and cash worth Rs 8.5 lakh from the house of a doctor in Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri.
The theft occurred between December 25 and 27 while the doctor and his family were away at the Lonavala hill station. Yadav completed his daily chores and was believed to have returned to his own home during the doctor’s absence. Upon their return on December 27, the family discovered the theft of Rs 4.5 lakh worth of jewellery and Rs 4 lakh in cash from their cupboard.
A maid informed the family that Yadav had left after completing his duties. When confronted, Yadav admitted to the theft but initially withheld information about the stolen items. This prompted the family to approach the police.
Following an investigation, a theft case was filed, and Yadav was arrested on Saturday. Authorities are working to recover the stolen jewellery. Further investigations are ongoing.
This incident follows a similar robbery at the residence of an associate professor at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, where cash and jewellery worth over Rs 3 lakh were stolen.
