OPD, IPD and Emergency Services Restored Following Police Assurances in Jaipur

Medical services at private hospitals across Jaipur resumed on Sunday after an indefinite strike was withdrawn following assurances from the police regarding doctors’ safety and a fair investigation into the alleged attack on a doctor’s family.

The strike had led to the suspension of OPD, IPD, and emergency services at most private hospitals in the city, causing significant inconvenience to patients seeking consultations, diagnostic tests, and treatment for chronic illnesses. While hospitals continued treating already admitted patients, new admissions were halted, forcing many families to search for alternative healthcare facilities.

Protest Triggered by Alleged Misconduct During Court Hearing

The protest was launched by private medical institutions after an incident during a hearing at the Rajasthan High Court on Thursday. Doctors alleged that a group created chaos during the hearing of a doctor’s bail plea by raising slogans and disrupting court proceedings, resulting in the matter being adjourned until May 11.

Following the incident, the doctor’s family filed a complaint, based on which an FIR was registered at Ashok Nagar Police Station on Saturday.

Medical Bodies Meet Jaipur Police Commissioner

A joint delegation comprising representatives from the Indian Medical Association, Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Society, and Medical Practitioners Society met the Jaipur Police Commissioner to raise concerns over the incident and demand enhanced security for doctors.

According to the Jaipur branch of the IMA, the doctor’s father and brother were allegedly intercepted, threatened, assaulted, and verbally abused after the court hearing. The incident triggered widespread outrage among doctors across Rajasthan.

Medical organisations demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. The Police Commissioner accepted the demand and assured strict action against those found guilty while promising improved security measures for the medical community.

Strike Withdrawn in Public Interest

Following the assurances from the administration, medical organisations held a joint meeting at the Jaipur Medical Association Hall and decided to withdraw the strike in view of the hardships faced by patients and the general public.

Medical bodies confirmed that normal healthcare services at private hospitals and clinics in Jaipur have resumed with immediate effect.

However, doctors stated that the boycott of the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS) will continue across the state due to unresolved issues and alleged irregularities within the scheme.

Background of the Case Against Mansarovar Doctor

The controversy stems from the arrest of a doctor associated with a private hospital in Mansarovar on April 12. The doctor has been accused of allegedly submitting forged documents under the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme for a patient admitted to the hospital.

According to reports, the case was registered at Mansarovar Police Station on September 29, 2025, following a complaint filed by Jitendra Kumar Sharma, whose mother was treated at Nivik Hospital under RGHS before passing away during treatment.

Dr. Anurag Tomar, Secretary of the IMA Jaipur, claimed that a medical board formed after the complaint found no evidence of medical negligence or treatment-related irregularities. However, he alleged that continuous protests and pressure led to the registration of a criminal case over alleged documentation discrepancies and minor RGHS-related errors, ultimately resulting in the doctor’s imprisonment.
