Accreditation to Enhance Accuracy and Reliability of Diagnostic Services Across Bihar
In a major achievement for Bihar’s public healthcare system, the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, has become the first government-run healthcare institution in the state to secure accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) for its Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory.
The prestigious accreditation was awarded after the successful implementation of stringent internal and external quality control mechanisms, regular calibration of laboratory equipment, and adherence to standardized testing protocols. The recognition is expected to significantly improve the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of diagnostic reports provided to patients.
NABL Accreditation Covers Nearly 100 Diagnostic Tests
The NABL accreditation covers approximately 100 diagnostic tests conducted by the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory. With this recognition, all tests performed in the laboratory will now comply with nationally and internationally accepted quality standards, ensuring higher confidence in laboratory results and patient care.
According to institute officials, the accreditation reflects compliance with established quality management systems, standardized operating procedures, equipment calibration requirements, and internationally recognized laboratory practices.
Improved Diagnostic Accuracy to Support Better Treatment Decisions
Medical experts at IGIMS highlighted the critical role laboratory investigations play in disease diagnosis and treatment planning. They emphasized that improved accuracy and reliability of diagnostic reports will help clinicians make more informed treatment decisions, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes.
The institute further noted that standardized laboratory procedures under NABL accreditation help ensure uniformity, reproducibility, and consistency in test results, reducing the possibility of diagnostic errors.
Team Effort Behind the Achievement
The accreditation is the result of the collective efforts of doctors, scientists, technical officers, laboratory personnel, and administrative staff who worked together to meet the stringent quality benchmarks required by NABL.
Welcoming the achievement, IGIMS Director Prof. Dr. Binde Kumar, Deputy Director (Administration) Prof. Dr. Vibhuti Sinha, and Medical Superintendent Prof. Dr. Manish Mandal described the accreditation as a landmark step towards strengthening healthcare delivery and diagnostic excellence at the institute.
Faculty members and technical staff of the Department of Biochemistry also hailed the accomplishment as a significant milestone not only for IGIMS but also for Bihar’s public health infrastructure, setting a new benchmark for quality laboratory services in government healthcare institutions across the state.
Strengthening Public Healthcare Infrastructure
The NABL accreditation is expected to boost public confidence in government healthcare facilities and encourage other state-run institutions to adopt robust quality assurance measures. The development marks a significant advancement in Bihar’s healthcare ecosystem and reinforces IGIMS Patna’s commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centric medical services.
