Pune: The state health department has directed medical officers to inspect private hospitals for overcharging, fire safety gaps, and biomedical waste disposal issues.

The inspections will evaluate compliance with the Maharashtra Nursing Home Act, 1966, following a directive issued by Health Department Director Dr. Nitin Ambadekar. The action comes after Health Minister Prakash Abitkar’s visit to Pune’s Regional Mental Hospital, where he reprimanded officials for neglecting hygiene and staff payment issues.

Dr. Ambadekar emphasized that non-compliant hospitals will receive a month’s notice to rectify shortcomings before facing legal action. “We aim to ensure transparency and adherence to government norms,” he said.
