Focus on affordable and quality healthcare
Chandigarh: Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao on Friday said the state government’s primary focus is on eliminating anaemia and cancer, while reiterating its commitment to providing affordable, accessible and quality healthcare to citizens.
Push for early cancer detection
Speaking to reporters, Rao said the number of cancer screening tests will be increased to ensure early diagnosis. She added that patients suffering from stage-3 and stage-4 cancer are being provided financial assistance of Rs 3,000 per month, PTI reported.
New cancer care centre in Ambala
To strengthen treatment facilities, a 50-bed Atal Cancer Care Centre has been set up at the Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantt. The centre is equipped with advanced facilities including mammography, a CT simulator and a linear accelerator.
Free travel for cancer patients
The minister said cancer patients and one attendant are being given free travel facilities in government buses for treatment, easing the financial burden on families seeking regular care.
Anaemia rate shows decline
Under the Anaemia-Free India campaign, Rao said work is being carried out at a rapid pace. As a result, the anaemia rate in Haryana has declined from 59 per cent to 53 per cent, helping the state improve its national ranking from fifth to third position.
Health budget records sharp rise
Rao highlighted a significant increase in the health budget over the years. While it stood at Rs 2,646 crore in 2014–15, it has risen to Rs 9,942 crore in 2025–26, marking an increase of about 275 per cent.
Steps to address doctor shortage
Addressing the shortage of doctors, the minister said appointment letters have been issued to 746 medical officers and 845 ayurvedic medical officers. She added that 346 medical officers and 154 specialists are currently working under the National Health Mission.
Expansion of facilities across districts
Rao said MRI scan facilities are now available in five districts, with agreements signed for Panipat and Kurukshetra and tenders floated for the remaining districts. Senior Citizen Corners and physiotherapy units are functional in all district hospitals, while modern Mother and Child Health wings are being set up to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services.
