Haryana Government Appoints HSIIDC as New Executing Agency for Long-Pending Hospital Project
In a major step towards strengthening public healthcare infrastructure in Gurugram, the Haryana government has appointed the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) as the new executing agency for the proposed civil hospital project, replacing the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
Haryana Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao announced the decision on Thursday, stating that HSIIDC will be responsible for the construction of the ₹1,054-crore hospital near the Police Lines area. Officials have been directed to complete all pending formalities at the earliest to ensure the project moves forward without further delays.
400-Bed Hospital Planned with Scope for Future Expansion
The latest approved design of the project proposes a 400-bed multi-specialty government hospital, with provisions to add another 200 beds in the second phase. The project has reached the final stage of approval after undergoing multiple revisions in scope and design over the years.
Earlier, the Haryana government had tasked CPWD with preparing drawings for a revised 400+200-bed model. CPWD was also responsible for planning and designing the long-awaited hospital, which was initially envisioned as a 600-bed healthcare facility.
Project Witnessed Multiple Design Revisions
By mid-2024, CPWD had prepared plans for a 10-storey, 750-bed hospital, following which the state government earmarked nearly ₹990 crore for the project. However, subsequent revisions in the project’s requirements led to changes in the design and capacity, resulting in delays in the commencement of construction work.
The hospital project has witnessed several transformations since its inception. Initially proposed as a 500-bed facility, it was later upgraded to a 750-bed hospital in the Haryana Budget 2023-24. The latest plan, however, adopts a phased development approach, beginning with 400 beds while retaining the flexibility for future expansion.
Major Relief for Gurugram’s Growing Population
The new hospital is expected to significantly enhance healthcare services in Gurugram, which currently relies heavily on the Civil Hospital in Sector 10. The existing government hospital handles nearly 2,000 OPD patients every day, placing considerable pressure on available resources.
With Gurugram’s rapidly increasing population and growing healthcare needs, residents have long demanded a large, modern government hospital capable of providing advanced medical services. Once completed, the new facility is expected to ease the burden on existing healthcare infrastructure and improve access to affordable treatment for thousands of patients across the city.
Government Aims to Accelerate Project Execution
The appointment of HSIIDC is being viewed as an effort by the Haryana government to accelerate the execution of the long-delayed project. With approvals nearing completion and a dedicated executing agency now in place, the government is expected to push for faster implementation of one of Gurugram’s most anticipated public healthcare projects.
